Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay is likely to resign from the Trichy East constituency after winning from both Perambur and Trichy East in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The Vijay Trichy East resignation news has now created huge political interest across the state.
Earlier, reports claimed actress Trisha Krishnan could contest the by-election from Trichy East. However, fresh reports suggest Vijay may prefer an experienced administrator instead of a film celebrity. Former IAS officer U. Sagayam has now emerged as a strong contender for the seat.
Sagayam earned public respect for his anti-corruption work and honest image during his government service. TVK leaders reportedly believe his administrative experience could strengthen the party’s governance plans in Tamil Nadu.
Political observers expect Vijay to officially announce his resignation soon. If that happens, the Trichy East by-election could become one of the most closely watched political battles in Tamil Nadu.
