A tense situation occurred early Tuesday near the railway station in Nidubrolu, Guntur district, after miscreants tried to damage the railway signaling system. The Nidubrolu Railway Signal Tampering attempt alerted Government Railway Police (GRP) officers on patrol.
Police noticed a few suspicious persons near a signal point close to the tracks. When officers approached them, the suspects allegedly tried to cut wires connected to the signal system. This act raised fears of a possible train disruption or accident. Authorities say the Nidubrolu Railway Signal Tampering could have caused serious problems for train operations if it had succeeded.
When police tried to detain them, the suspects reportedly threw stones at the officers. In response, GRP personnel fired about ten warning shots into the air for self-defence. Hearing the gunshots, the miscreants fled into nearby bushes along the railway track.
Police have launched a search operation and registered a case. Investigators are checking whether the incident was theft or a deliberate attempt to sabotage railway infrastructure. Security around the station has been tightened.
