The Unnao rape case setback for Kuldeep Singh Sengar has brought the case back into focus after a key Supreme Court order.
The Unnao rape case setback for Kuldeep Singh Sengar came when the Supreme Court cancelled a Delhi High Court order. The High Court had suspended his life sentence. The Supreme Court said the High Court must hear the matter again.
The court did not give any final ruling on guilt or innocence. It pointed out issues in the High Court’s decision. It ordered a fresh review of the appeal within a fixed time.
Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a former MLA, was convicted in the 2017 Unnao rape case. The case caused strong public anger across the country. The latest order means his sentence suspension will not continue without a new hearing.
The High Court must now complete the hearing soon. It has to issue a fresh decision based on legal merits.
