The Supreme Court refuses urgent hearing on cow slaughter plea as the Supreme Court refuses urgent hearing on cow slaughter plea filed just before Bakrid. The court said there was no emergency reason to take up the matter immediately.
A bench led by the Chief Justice questioned the timing of the petition and said it could not be treated as urgent one day before the festival. The judges refused to place the case for immediate hearing.
The petition sought directions to states to strictly enforce anti-cow slaughter laws during Bakrid. It also asked for stronger monitoring of slaughterhouses across the country during the festival period.
The plea was filed by Satish Kumar Agarwal, former vice-president of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha. The court declined any urgent relief.
