Patna: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the schedule for the Bihar Vidhan Sabha elections in the first or second week of October 2025. Sources indicate that polling will be held only after the Durga Puja and Diwali festivals, ensuring that the festival season does not overlap with the election process.

The term of the current assembly ends on November 22, 2025, which means the entire process—voting, counting, and government formation—must be completed before then.

Officials say the polls may be conducted in 2–3 phases across the state’s 243 constituencies. The phased approach will allow for better deployment of security forces and smoother management of polling logistics, particularly in sensitive districts.

Preparations are already underway: more than 90,000 polling stations are being set up, backed by nearly 5.5 lakh polling personnel. The Election Commission has also completed a special revision of electoral rolls, adding new voters and cleaning up outdated records.

On the political front, the ruling NDA alliance led by the BJP and JD(U) is finalizing its campaign strategy, while the opposition INDIA bloc anchored by the RJD and Congress is stepping up outreach efforts.

With festivals and elections set to come back-to-back, November is shaping up to be a crucial month for Bihar’s political future.
