Trump Urges Supreme Court to Quickly Take Up Tariffs Case

The Trump urges Supreme Court to quickly take up tariffs case marks the latest step in his administration’s trade battles.

On Wednesday, the Trump administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court to rule quickly on whether the President can impose sweeping import taxes under federal law. Solicitor General D. John Sauer filed a petition urging the justices to hear arguments by early November.

The request comes after an appeals court ruled that most of Trump’s tariffs were illegal, saying they violated emergency powers law. The government wants the Supreme Court to reverse that ruling. Trump officials argue that uncertainty over tariffs undermines ongoing trade talks with other nations and jeopardizes previously negotiated deals.

“The stakes in this case could not be higher,” Sauer wrote, stressing that both foreign negotiations and small businesses are at risk. Business groups also raised concerns about instability caused by tariff disputes.

The Trump urges Supreme Court to quickly take up tariffs case adds to a series of legal battles shaping Trump’s trade policy, making the Supreme Court a central arena for his economic agenda.
