Red FM Canada raises $2 million for Punjab flood relief

A private FM radio network in Canada raised $2 million in just two days to help Punjab flood victims. The fundraising drive saw strong support from Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto.

On Thursday, listeners of Red FM Vancouver and Calgary pledged over $1.5 million. Vancouver alone contributed $1 million, while Calgary raised $460,000. The next day, Red FM Toronto added nearly $500,000, taking the total to $2 million.

All donations will go to Sikhi Awareness Foundation (SAF) International, a Surrey-based non-profit. SAF will run a three-phase relief plan: emergency supplies, rehabilitation, and long-term rebuilding for affected families.

Red FM president Kulwinder Sanghera said the community’s support has been outstanding over the past 19 years of Radiothons. He added that the South Asian community always steps up during crises.

This quick and united effort shows the strong ties between Canadian South Asians and their roots in Punjab. The raised funds will provide vital relief for thousands suffering due to the floods.
