A wanted Maoist carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Sunday. Police confirmed that the encounter broke out in the forests of Panchlataburu hills in the Rela Paral area under the Goilkera police station.

Security teams launched the operation early in the morning after receiving intelligence about Maoist presence. During the gun battle, forces recovered a body while conducting a follow-up search in the dense forest zone.

Kolhan DIG Anuranjan Kispotta said the exchange of fire took place during a planned operation between Maoists and the police. He confirmed that the forces maintained control over the area and continued combing operations to ensure safety.

Jharkhand Police spokesperson Michael Raj S later identified the slain Maoist as Amit Hansda alias Aptan, a zonal committee member of CPI (Maoist). Hansda carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh for his capture.

This encounter marks a significant success for security forces in Jharkhand, where Maoist groups have remained active in several remote areas. Police officials said operations will continue to neutralize threats and restore peace in the region.
