In a significant move under the Indian Railways’ modernization plan, Platform No. 5 at Nagpur Railway Station has been closed for 52 days starting today, September 8, and will remain shut until October 29, 2025. The closure is part of a large-scale redevelopment project aimed at improving passenger facilities and train handling efficiency at one of central India’s busiest junctions.

According to railway authorities, 19 trains that usually operate from Platform 5 have been diverted to alternate platforms. Among these are high-profile services including the Amritsar–Nagpur AC Express and the Vande Bharat Express, both of which carry thousands of passengers every week. Notices have been issued urging commuters to check updates through the NTES app, station display boards, and public announcements to avoid confusion.

Officials explained that the closure will allow engineers to carry out comprehensive renovation work, which includes platform resurfacing, track alignment, installation of modern signaling systems, and upgrades to passenger amenities such as waiting halls, escalators, and sanitation facilities. Once complete, Platform 5 is expected to offer a safer, more comfortable, and modern travel experience.

To reduce inconvenience during this period, the Central Railway has deployed extra staff and volunteers at Nagpur station to guide passengers, especially elderly travelers and those unfamiliar with train diversions. Additional signboards and help desks have been set up to manage the large daily footfall.

Nagpur station handles thousands of passengers daily and is a vital junction connecting north, south, and central India. Authorities have acknowledged the temporary disruption but stress that the long-term benefits of the project will outweigh short-term difficulties.

Passengers have been requested to plan their journeys well in advance and make use of digital alerts for real-time train schedules and platform changes. The redevelopment of Platform 5 is part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to modernize infrastructure across the country.
