The India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match has triggered fresh controversy just days before the clash in Dubai on September 14. A group of law students filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court to cancel the game. However, the bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi dismissed the request, saying, “It’s just a match.”

The petition, filed under Article 32 by four students led by Urvashi Jain, argued that holding the match soon after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor insults national sentiment. They claimed that playing cricket with Pakistan lowers the morale of Indian soldiers and dishonors the sacrifices of martyrs and terror victims.

Despite these concerns, the judges refused to list the matter urgently. They noted that the match was only days away and no action could be taken at this stage.

India-Pakistan cricket matches have faced similar calls for cancellation in the past. The BCCI explained that while India avoids bilateral series with Pakistan, it cannot skip multinational events like the Asia Cup. Boycotting such tournaments could invite sanctions from global cricket bodies, which would harm Indian players’ careers.
