Punjab Health Minister Visits flood-hit child Abhijot Singh at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital Amritsar

Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh visited 8-year-old Abhijot Singh at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. The boy, from Talwandi Rai Dadu, Ajnala, has battled Nephrotic Syndrome for three years. He was rescued during floods in critical condition.

Dr Rakesh Sharma, a senior surgeon, first diagnosed his illness. He had worked with an AIIMS team that visited flood-hit Ajnala villages.

The Health Minister met Abhijot’s family and gave them a cheque of ₹50,000. He promised that the Punjab government will cover all treatment costs. PGI doctors are also being consulted for his care.

Abhijot’s health worsened when medicines were unavailable during floods. A Health Department team used a boat ambulance to shift him to Amritsar Medical College.

Dr Balbir Singh earlier flagged off 15 ambulances from Amritsar Medical College. Twenty-three vans are already serving families in affected areas. He said these vehicles provide immediate medical relief.

He added that help is available on helpline number 104. Health teams are visiting homes, spreading dengue and chikungunya awareness, and collecting blood samples from suspected cases.
