Nepal Interim PM Karki Promises Elections in Six Months

Nepal Interim Government Plans Elections

Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki said that she and her team have no desire to cling to power. She confirmed that elections will take place within six months. Once a new parliament is formed, her government will hand over authority.

Karki praised the Gen Z protests that demanded political change. She promised to honor those who died in the movement as martyrs. Their families will receive 1 million Nepali rupees in compensation. The Prime Minister called their sacrifice a turning point for the nation.

She also assured support for those injured in the protests. The government will cover medical expenses and provide financial aid for recovery. Citizens who lost property will also get assistance. Karki stressed that the interim government exists to protect the people and maintain order.

Acknowledging Nepal’s economic crisis, Karki said her top priority is stability. She underlined that her role is only transitional. The interim government, she said, will focus on preparing free and fair elections rather than extending its stay in power.
