Nepal Interim PM Sushila Karki Expands Cabinet

Nepal interim PM Sushila Karki expands cabinet, appoints Kulman Ghising, Om Prakash Aryal, and Rameshwor Khanal as key ministers.

Nepal entered a new phase of governance after the Gen Z protests forced the prime minister, president, and several ministers to resign. The protests, fueled by corruption scandals and a social media ban, brought Sushila Karki to power as interim prime minister.

Karki, Nepal’s first woman chief justice, promised to lead only for six months. She pledged to restore stability, prepare for elections, and address the demands of young protesters who spearheaded the movement.

On Monday, Karki expanded her cabinet at the presidential residence, Sheetal Niwas, in Kathmandu. Kulman Ghising took charge of energy, urban development, and infrastructure. Om Prakash Aryal assumed responsibility for law and home affairs, while Rameshwor Khanal became finance minister.

Analysts see the cabinet expansion as a step toward stronger governance during Nepal’s transition. The interim government faces major challenges such as economic recovery and administrative reform. Citizens are watching closely to see whether Karki and her team can stabilize the country and ensure free elections within the promised timeframe.
