A 75-year-old doctor in Hyderabad tragically died after becoming a victim of an organised cyber fraud. The fraudsters, part of a digital crime gang, used impersonation, forgery, and threats to extort money from the victim.

The doctor received a WhatsApp call from a number displaying the Bangalore Police logo. The fraudsters falsely implicated her in a fabricated “Sadat Khan Human Trafficking Case” by presenting forged documents with her Aadhaar details.

Over the next three days, the fraudsters continuously harassed her through video calls. They showed fake documents supposedly from the Supreme Court, Karnataka Police, Enforcement Directorate, and the Reserve Bank of India, threatening her with prosecution under a non-existent National Secret Act, 1923.

Under duress, the doctor withdrew Rs 6.6 lakh from her pension account and sent it to the criminals. Despite this, she continued to receive intimidating calls and falsified notices. The immense stress caused by the situation led to a cardiac arrest. She was rushed to a private hospital but passed away soon after.
