A.P. Government Clearing ₹4,498-crore Power Dues a Historic Move: Minister
An Andhra Pradesh Minister on Monday described the State government’s decision to bear power sector dues amounting to ₹4,498 crore as a historic and bold reform aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution system. Speaking in Vijayawada, the Minister said the move would ease the financial burden on power utilities, improve their operational efficiency, and ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers across the State. He noted that clearing accumulated dues would enhance the credibility of distribution companies and enable them to invest in infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.
The Minister said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to reviving the power sector and supporting farmers, households, and industries through reliable and affordable electricity. He added that the step would also help attract new investments by ensuring energy stability. Emphasising fiscal discipline, the Minister stated that the government is implementing long-term reforms to prevent future losses and ensure sustainable growth of the power sector in Andhra Pradesh.
