A.P. to Set Up 46 Project Monitoring Units to Boost Urban Sanitation

Andhra Pradesh will establish Project Monitoring Units (PMUs) in 46 cities to strengthen urban sanitation management under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0. Announcing the initiative, officials said the dedicated units will provide real-time monitoring, data validation, and technical support to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), ensuring continuous oversight of sanitation services.
The PMUs aim to shift the focus from periodic assessments to ongoing performance management, allowing authorities to identify gaps, address challenges promptly, and improve service delivery standards. Each unit will work closely with municipal staff to optimise waste management, cleanliness drives, and public engagement efforts.
Officials highlighted that the move aligns with the state government’s commitment to creating clean and healthy urban spaces, enhancing civic amenities, and promoting sustainable sanitation practices. By leveraging technology and continuous monitoring, Andhra Pradesh seeks to improve accountability, efficiency, and citizen satisfaction, positioning the state as a model for urban sanitation governance in the country.
