The AAP leader Daljit Raju shooting created intense fear in Darvesh village near Phagwara early Thursday morning. Two masked men opened fire at Raju’s home around 1:13 AM. Over a dozen shots hit the building, yet Raju, his wife, and daughter stayed safe. The AAP leader Daljit Raju shooting has now raised major concerns about extortion and gang threats in the region.
Raju said he woke up to loud gunfire and immediately looked outside. He saw two masked men standing close to his house and firing repeatedly. Bullets damaged the glass railing and windows on the first floor. Soon after, he recovered CCTV footage that showed the attackers arriving on a motorcycle. They parked it near the village gate and walked toward the house. One of them threw four pages into the premises with the words “Kala Rana Group — 5 crore,” hinting at a clear extortion threat.
Raju stressed that he had no enmity with anyone. He believes criminal groups targeted him only to create fear. Empty cartridges were also found outside the house.
Police reacted quickly. Two SHOs reached the spot within minutes. Later, Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma, DSP Bharat Bhushan, MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Halka Incharge Harnoor Singh Maan met the family and reviewed the damage.
Police registered a case under the BNS and Arms Act. According to SSP Gaurav Toora, investigators are now checking all CCTV footage and exploring extortion and gang rivalry angles. Meanwhile, police patrols have increased across the area to maintain security.
