Punjab police arrested AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra on charges of rape and cheating. The MLA represents Sanour constituency in Patiala. The case came after a complaint by a woman from Zirakpur, who said Singh continued a relationship with her despite his divorce and later threatened her.
Police detained him near Karnal and were taking him to the station when the incident turned violent. Reports say Singh opened fire on officers, injuring a constable, and attacked them with his Scorpio vehicle. With help from his aides, he escaped in nearby cars.
Following the escape, police launched a large-scale manhunt to trace the MLA and his supporters. Security has been tightened in the area.
Before his arrest, Harmeet Singh released a video on social media. He called the allegations a political conspiracy and accused the AAP government of failing to handle Punjab floods effectively.
