The agricultural assistance package announced by the Gujarat government has sparked anger and confusion among farmers. Many farmers say the agricultural assistance package is turning into a new struggle instead of offering relief. Portal glitches, long queues, and pressure to clear pending dues have increased their frustration.
In Kalavad taluka of Jamnagar district, the local panchayat ordered that farmers must first pay their pending taxes to receive benefits. This decision triggered protests, as farmers already face heavy losses due to unseasonal rain. They fear they may lose the promised support if they cannot pay dues in time.
Despite the state’s announcement of a ₹10,000-crore package, farmers doubt whether they will get real help. Joint account holders worry because only one person from the shared account will receive assistance. Farmers with multiple accounts will also receive benefits from only one account, raising more questions about fairness.
Adding to the confusion, officers argue that villages have not paid revenue for months, so dues must be collected when farmers submit relief forms. Farmers call this harassment, saying they expected support but are now pressured during a crisis. Many feel the system is working against them instead of helping them recover.
