New Delhi, January 1, 2025: AI misuse on social media came under sharp focus after Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote to Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. She raised strong concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence tools to target women online.
In her letter, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said AI misuse on social media platforms has enabled the creation of objectionable images using fake accounts. She highlighted tools like Grok on X, which she said some users exploit to harass women.
Moreover, Priyanka Chaturvedi described such acts as a serious breach of privacy. She said these practices directly harm women’s dignity and safety. Therefore, she urged the Centre to act without delay.
According to her, big technology companies must take responsibility. She stressed that AI features need strict guardrails. Without proper checks, misuse will continue, she warned.
Additionally, she called for stronger monitoring systems and faster grievance redressal. She also asked the government to review existing IT laws to address AI-driven abuse.
Meanwhile, experts say her letter highlights a growing digital threat. As AI tools expand, misuse risks also rise. Hence, many believe urgent regulation has become necessary.
The issue has revived debate on ethical AI use. It also underlines the need for safer online spaces for women.
