Air Purifiers in Government Offices Urged Amid Delhi’s Toxic Air

Air Purifiers in Government Offices

As Delhi’s air quality worsens, Central Secretariat Services (CSS) officers have urged the government to install air purifiers in all central offices, including Kartavya Bhawan.

The CSS Forum wrote to the Department of Personnel and Training, asking that air purifiers be provided to every employee, not just senior officers. The forum said all staff breathe the same toxic air and deserve equal protection at work.

The CSS Forum, representing Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ officers, forms the core of the Central Secretariat. It highlighted poor air circulation and the impact of heavy traffic near government offices. Kartavya Bhawan, which houses many employees, faces severe pollution.

Officers also raised concerns about ongoing construction inside the complex. They said dust from the site mixes with outside pollution, making indoor air unhealthy and workspaces uncomfortable.

Delhi’s air quality stayed in the “very poor” range on Monday after hitting “severe” levels on Sunday. The city has struggled with pollution since late October.

Last year, CSS officers also asked for work-from-home options and flexible office hours. In response to the current crisis, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced staggered timings for government and MCD employees from November 15 to February 15.
