Panic gripped Ajmer’s Makhupura industrial belt on Friday morning after a major GST raid hit Sagar Steel, also known as JSW New Steel. The team arrived without warning and moved fast. Officers took control of the main office, billing counters, and storage godowns within minutes. Traders in nearby units watched nervously as documents, computers, and stock records were seized for verification.

Officials began the action after weeks of red flags. Additional Commissioner Jayprakash Meena said the department noticed sudden drops in turnover and unusually low cash deposits from firms linked to the steel unit. The data pointed to suspicious trading patterns. Early checks suggest that several companies may have used fake firms to buy iron sheets and rods. This would have caused a major revenue loss to the state.

Teams from Ajmer, Kishangarh, Beawar, Nagaur, and Makrana are now scanning e-way bills, invoices, stock registers, and digital logs. Employees are also being questioned to identify anyone involved in the alleged tax evasion network. Officers believe the scale of wrongdoing could be large.

A clearer picture is expected by Friday evening. For now, the raid stands as one of the biggest GST operations in the region and has left the industrial area tense.
