India will soon begin producing AK-203 rifles in Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025. The rifles will be built in partnership with Russia. This marks a major step in India’s defence self-reliance.
The AK-203 rifles production to commence soon in Uttar Pradesh supports the ‘Made in India’ mission. PM Modi said the new facility will help India build everything “from chip to ship.” This move aims to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and strengthen domestic capabilities.
The rifles will be manufactured at the Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi. This factory is part of Indo-Russian joint venture Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited. The AK-203 is a modern assault rifle known for its reliability, lightweight design, and high performance.
The AK-203 rifles production to commence soon in Uttar Pradesh also connects with the state’s defence corridor. This corridor already hosts BrahMos missile production and other advanced weapon systems. The corridor is expected to attract more investment and generate thousands of jobs.
PM Modi invited global investors to explore opportunities in Uttar Pradesh. He highlighted the state’s growing MSME network and its role in India’s economic growth. He also emphasized that India will not be slowed by global disruptions. Instead, these challenges will spark innovation and resilience.
With AK-203 rifles soon rolling out from Uttar Pradesh, India is moving closer to defence indigenisation and strategic independence. This initiative reflects the country’s commitment to modernize its armed forces and boost local manufacturing.
