Akshay Kumar Moves Bombay High Court Over Deepfake Misuse
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has approached the Bombay High Court seeking protection against the misuse of his image and likeness through deepfake technology. The plea comes after a deepfake video went viral, falsely portraying Kumar as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a fabricated movie trailer. The actor clarified he was never involved in such a project and expressed concern over the potential damage to his reputation and public image.
In his petition, Kumar has urged the court to direct authorities to take strict action against those responsible for creating and circulating such manipulated content. He also called for stronger regulations to curb the rising threat of AI-generated misinformation in the entertainment industry. The case highlights growing concerns in India over the use of deepfakes to spread false narratives, especially involving high-profile public figures.
