Amit Shah Announces Three-Year Nationwide Campaign Against Drug Abuse

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday announced a three-year nationwide campaign against drug abuse, beginning March 31, aimed at strengthening India’s fight against narcotics through a coordinated and results-driven approach. Speaking in New Delhi, Mr. Shah said the campaign would bring together all stakeholders and define a clear working methodology across every pillar involved in combating drug abuse.
He said specific targets would be fixed for enforcement, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, with regular and time-bound reviews to assess progress. The initiative, he noted, is designed to move beyond isolated efforts and ensure sustained action through coordination between the Centre, States, law enforcement agencies and social organisations.
Emphasising the social and national security dimensions of the drug menace, Mr. Shah said narcotics not only destroy youth but also fuel organised crime and terrorism. The proposed campaign will focus on reducing demand, dismantling supply chains and increasing public awareness, particularly among young people.
