Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a crucial meeting with BJP MPs and MLAs in Kolkata on Wednesday. The meeting comes ahead of the high-stakes West Bengal Assembly elections in 2026.

Shah met current and former party legislators at a private hotel in the Salt Lake area. He urged leaders to spend more time in their constituencies. Sources said he linked future ticket decisions to ground-level performance.

The Home Minister laid out clear guidelines for election preparation. He also interacted with candidates who lost in the last polls. Shah wanted to understand their challenges and campaign hurdles.

Senior leaders attended the meeting, including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and state president Samik Bhattacharya. Former state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh also appeared at the gathering. MPs Sukanta Majumdar and Manoj Tigga joined other party veterans.

Dilip Ghosh said he attended to listen and follow party directions. Suvendu Adhikari expressed confidence about a change in power in 2026.

The meeting signalled unity within the state BJP unit. It also hinted at a renewed role for Dilip Ghosh.

Later in the day, Shah addressed a BJP workers’ conference. He remains in Bengal for a three-day visit focused on election strategy.
