Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed Punjab law and order in a meeting with Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit. The review came amid growing concerns over peace and security in the state.
The talks focused on violent incidents, rising drug trafficking, and the need for stronger intelligence. Shah assured full central support to Punjab’s authorities. He said Punjab’s security is vital because of its border with Pakistan. Any disturbance in the state could affect the whole nation.
Governor Purohit stressed the importance of communal harmony and strict action against organized crime. Both leaders agreed to strengthen coordination between central and state agencies. They also discussed ways to counter terrorism, extremism, and cross-border smuggling.
The meeting ended with a joint promise to restore public trust and maintain peace. More reviews will be held in the coming weeks as part of the Centre’s monitoring of Punjab.
