Strongman Anant Singh files nomination from Mokama on a JDU ticket. He reached the office in a white Thar to submit his papers. Before filing, he arranged a big feast for 25,000 supporters. Reports say more than one lakh rasgullas were served. After filing, he led a roadshow with hundreds of vehicles. He said he would win Mokama by one lakh votes.
Anant Singh has been a key face in Bihar politics since 2005. He won five elections in a row from Mokama — first as a JDU candidate, later as an independent, and then as an RJD leader. In 2020, he became MLA on an RJD ticket. Later, the court sentenced him to ten years in jail for keeping illegal weapons. On August 14, 2024, the Patna High Court cleared him of all charges.
After release, Singh met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The meeting sparked talk that he might rejoin JDU. His wife, Neelam Devi, had already won the 2022 Mokama by-election on an RJD ticket. With this step, Anant Singh files nomination from Mokama again, hoping to regain his strong base.
