Andhra Pradesh Leads Nation in HIV Control, Says Health Minister
Andhra Pradesh has achieved significant progress in controlling HIV cases, placing first in the country, according to Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav. He stated that the A.P. State AIDS Control Society has achieved 76.96% of the 80% target set by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), reflecting the state’s strong performance in prevention, testing, and treatment efforts.
The Minister credited this achievement to continuous awareness campaigns, improved access to testing facilities, and the effective implementation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) programmes across the state. He noted that the government has strengthened community outreach initiatives, especially among high-risk groups, to curb new infections.
Satya Kumar Yadav said the focus now is on bridging the remaining gap by enhancing surveillance, expanding counselling services, and ensuring timely treatment. He emphasised that sustained public cooperation and coordinated departmental efforts are essential to achieving the state’s goal of eliminating HIV transmission.
