Andhra Pradesh Removes Five Land Categories from Prohibited 22-A List to Benefit Farmers

The Andhra Pradesh government has removed five categories of land from the prohibited 22-A list, calling it a “New Year gift” to the people of the State. Revenue Minister Satya Prasad stated that the move aims to safeguard the rights of farmers and landowners while providing relief to genuine titleholders who faced restrictions on land transactions under the earlier provisions.
The 22-A list, which identifies lands where certain transactions are restricted, had limited the ability of owners to sell, lease, or mortgage their property in some cases. By excluding five categories from this list, the government intends to simplify land dealings, promote agricultural development, and reduce legal hurdles for legitimate landholders.
Officials said that the decision would benefit small and marginal farmers, encourage investment in agriculture and allied sectors, and enhance land-use efficiency. The government also emphasized that the amendment balances protecting public interest with empowering citizens to fully utilise their land rights.
The change is expected to positively impact thousands of landowners across Andhra Pradesh.
