Andhra Village Gets a New Name with a Divine Twist

Vasavi Penugonda renaming approved by Andhra govt to honor Goddess Kanyaka Parameswari’s birthplace in West Godavari.

The Andhra Pradesh coalition government has approved a major proposal to rename Penugonda village in West Godavari district. The village will now be officially known as Vasavi Penugonda. The official Government Order (GO) formalizing the name change is expected to be released soon.

The decision was made after Minister Savita met representatives of Arya Vaisya associations led by Arya Vaisya Corporation Chairman Rakesh at the Tadepalli camp office. The delegation appealed to rename Penugonda to honor Goddess Kanyaka Parameswari, who is believed to have been born there.

Minister Savita announced that the government had accepted the proposal, acknowledging the ancient cultural and spiritual significance of Penugonda. She also noted that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is committed to promoting the welfare and development of the Arya Vaisya community in Andhra Pradesh.

The renaming is seen as a tribute to Vasavi Matha’s legacy and the region’s deep-rooted history. With the upcoming GO, Vasavi Penugonda will officially enter administrative and cultural records, marking a proud moment for the community.
