AP Launches ‘Know What You Drink’ to Curb Spurious Liquor

Andhra Pradesh launches Know What You Drink app to verify liquor authenticity and curb sale of spurious alcohol statewide.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Prohibition and Excise Department has launched a public campaign called “Know What You Drink”. The initiative helps consumers verify liquor bought from licensed outlets. Director Chamakuri Sridhar inaugurated the campaign by placing awareness posters at a liquor store in Veterinary Colony, Vijayawada (NTR District).

The campaign teaches customers to check liquor bottles using the AP Excise Suraksha app. Consumers can scan the QR code on the bottle cap to confirm authenticity. The app displays the batch number, manufacturing date, and MRP. Currently, it works only for Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), not beer.

Sridhar visited the APSBCL depot at Nidamanur with the Deputy Commissioner to review stock and operations. He spoke to suppliers, addressed their concerns, and instructed staff to improve transparency and compliance.

He ordered that all liquor shops display the awareness posters. Sridhar warned that the department would strictly punish anyone selling fake or illicit liquor. He asked officials to ensure every bottle is scanned before sale, in line with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s directive.
