AP Speaker Calls for Right to Recall and ‘No Work, No Pay’ for MLAs

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu proposed important reforms to improve the functioning of legislatures. He was speaking at the 77th Republic Day celebrations held at the State Assembly in Amaravati on Monday. The Speaker suggested the introduction of the Right to Recall, which would allow people to remove elected representatives if they fail to perform their duties. He also supported the “no work, no pay” rule for MLAs to ensure accountability.
Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu said that legislatures should have at least 60 sitting days every year to restore their dignity and effectiveness. He stressed that regular discussions and debates are necessary for a strong democracy.
Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju also addressed the gathering. He described the Indian Constitution as the greatest guiding document for the nation. He said it protects democracy, justice, equality, and the rights of citizens.
Both leaders called for responsible governance and respect for democratic values.
