Around six armed men attacked AAP leader Sukhwinder Chhinda’s house in Lehra village on Saturday night. Chhinda is a known whistleblower against drug peddlers.
The attackers fired five to seven shots at the main gate and set Chhinda’s car on fire. They threatened his family before fleeing under the cover of darkness.
Dehlon police filed an FIR against a villager, Manak, and his accomplice. Assistant Commissioner of Police Harjinder Singh Gill said officers, led by Dehlon SHO Sukhjinder Singh, are hunting for the accused.
Chhinda, president of the Pohir Truck Union, said the attack was meant to punish him for opposing drug peddlers since the AAP government, led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, came to power.
A close associate of Gill legislator Jiwan Singh Sangowal, Chhinda promised to continue fighting against drugs despite the attack.
