Senior Fellow Ashley Tellis of the Carnegie Endowment praised India’s handling of recent tensions with the United States. He highlighted that New Delhi understood the stakes in its bilateral relationship and avoided actions that could escalate disagreements. Tellis emphasized that India’s approach was calculated and careful.

Tellis noted that the Indian government maintained open communication lines with Washington. Trade and energy issues were being addressed through respectful dialogue. He expressed hope that early results of these efforts would be seen in the coming weeks, reflecting India’s responsible diplomacy.

He also remarked that India’s offers on trade and energy should be considered a “win” for US President Donald Trump. Tellis advised that the administration should graciously accept these concessions, which he described as unprecedented efforts from India.

Recent negotiations include Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal meeting US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in New York. Talks focused on resolving key trade points. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright praised India as an “awesome ally” and emphasized collaboration in energy, nuclear power, and renewable start-ups. Both nations aim to strengthen cooperation in trade and energy.
