Ashok Alleges ₹2,500-Crore Bribery Racket in Karnataka Excise Department, Demands Minister Thimmapur’s Resignation
Former Karnataka minister Ashok on Sunday alleged a ₹2,500-crore bribery racket operating within the State’s Excise Department, demanding the resignation of Excise Minister R.B. Thimmapur. He claimed that the scandal involved high-level officials and influential individuals who allegedly manipulated licenses, permits, and other excise-related processes for personal gain.
Ashok urged the government to initiate a thorough investigation and called for the immediate suspension of officials implicated in the alleged racket. He accused the current administration of turning a blind eye to systemic corruption and warned that public trust in governance could be severely undermined if the allegations were ignored.
Political analysts noted that the accusations could escalate tensions ahead of upcoming elections, with opposition leaders using the issue totarget the ruling government. Ashok stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and strict enforcement of anti-corruption measures to restore faith in the Excise Department and ensure that illegal activities are promptly curtailed.
