Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday distributed ₹10,000 seed capital each to 35,199 women in Tamulpur under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA). He said the initiative is transforming women-led enterprises across the Bodoland Territorial Region and creating new livelihood opportunities.

The CM highlighted Assam’s long legacy of strong women and said self-help groups have sparked a major entrepreneurial movement. He noted that over 40 lakh women in Assam are part of SHGs, and more than 8 lakh women have already become “Lakhpati Baideo”, running successful businesses through savings and bank loans.

Sarma said the state plans to provide ₹10,000 to every SHG woman, costing ₹4,000 crore, and urged beneficiaries to use the capital wisely. If used effectively, women will receive additional grants of ₹25,000 and ₹50,000 in the next phases.

He also announced that Orunodoi 3.0 will roll out in BTC from December 12, benefiting 4.5 lakh women. From January 1, the state will launch the Babu Scheme for boys, and begin offering subsidised LPG cylinders and ration supplies to eligible families.
