Assam’s Nagaon district witnessed a major eviction drive on Saturday as authorities moved to clear nearly 795 hectares of reserved forest land in the Lutimari area. Around 1,500 families, who had been residing there for years, were affected by the operation carried out under heavy security deployment.

Officials said that eviction notices had been issued three months earlier, initially giving residents two months to vacate the area. On request, the administration granted an additional month before starting the final eviction process.

According to district authorities, more than 1,100 families had already dismantled their homes and vacated the land voluntarily, including both pucca and kutcha houses. The remaining structures are now being removed by the administration as part of the ongoing drive.
