Assam on High Alert as unrest and political instability continue to grip neighbouring Bangladesh. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the entire state has been placed on high alert due to rising security concerns.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Sarma said the situation in Bangladesh remains unstable. He expressed concern over reports of attacks on minority Hindus and provocative statements affecting India’s security. He added that every development across the border is under close watch.
The chief minister warned that some elements in Bangladesh have made irresponsible remarks about merging parts of Northeast India. He called such statements dangerous and unacceptable. Sarma said Assam must stay extra vigilant due to its long and sensitive border.
He noted that people from Bangladesh have entered Assam at different times in the past. This history, he said, demands stronger monitoring and preparedness. Earlier, Sarma had also cautioned against repeated claims by certain Bangladeshi groups regarding Northeast India.
To strengthen security, prohibitory orders have been imposed near the India–Bangladesh border in Assam’s Cachar district. Officials said the move aims to prevent illegal movement and maintain law and order.
Violence in Bangladesh recently escalated after the killing of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. His death triggered widespread unrest, further heightening regional tensions.
