Assam’s Sonitpur district administration has ordered five Bangladeshi nationals—four women and one man—to leave the state within 24 hours after they were officially declared “Declared Foreign Nationals” (DFN). The individuals, identified as Hanufa, Mariam Nessa, Fatima, Manowara and Amjad Ali, were residing in Dhopakata village under Jamugurihat police station.
The action follows cases filed in 2006 by the Superintendent of Police (Border). After reviewing evidence and legal procedures, Foreigners Tribunal No. 2 in Sonitpur declared all five as foreign nationals. With tribunal orders now enforced, district authorities have issued an immediate eviction notice.
Officials stated that failure to leave the state within the given 24-hour deadline will result in further legal action. The directive underscores the state’s strict enforcement of foreigner identification laws.
