Assam Police Attack Case: Ten Arrested

Assam Police Attack Case has triggered concern after a violent mob assaulted officers and freed a terror-support accused in Lakhimpur district. Police have arrested ten people linked to the planned attack.

The incident occurred on December 27 in Bongalmora village. Police detained Baharul Islam for posting content supporting the Pahalgam terror attack on social media. He allegedly used fake accounts to circulate extremist material.

Based on intelligence inputs, a police team traced Islam to the Sonapur area and took him into custody. As officers prepared to leave, a pre-assembled group launched a sudden assault.

More than ten people attacked the police team, beat officers, and forcibly freed the accused. Sub-Inspector Gokul Joyshree and the police vehicle driver suffered serious injuries. Doctors admitted both to a nearby hospital.

Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police Gunendra Deka confirmed the attack was pre-planned. Police identified Atabur Rahman as the group’s leader. Arrested suspects include Afazuddin, Ikramul Hussain, Fakhruddin Ahmed, Noor Hussain, Gulzar Hussain, and others.

Police revealed that several accused have criminal histories. Authorities have intensified the search for Baharul Islam, who remains absconding. Police have registered multiple charges and deployed extra forces to maintain law and order.
