The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has strongly condemned Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi over her remarks in the Delhi Assembly. SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said her statement about Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib deeply hurt Sikh sentiments. He described the comment as shameful and reflective of a poor mindset.

Dhami said the Sikh community will never tolerate disrespect toward the Guru Sahiban. He reminded that Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib, the ninth Sikh Guru, sacrificed his life in Delhi to protect religious freedom. Dhami said such sacrifices command respect, not political rhetoric.

He criticised Atishi for using what he called offensive language while speaking as the Leader of the Opposition. Dhami said the remarks insult Sikh history and faith. He added that such statements weaken communal harmony and responsible politics.

The SGPC president demanded immediate cancellation of Atishi’s Assembly membership. He also questioned the Aam Aadmi Party leadership. Dhami asked whether the party would take strict action against its leader. He said silence from the party would amount to endorsement.

The issue has triggered strong reactions among Sikh organisations. Many have called for a public apology from Atishi. Religious leaders said elected representatives must show sensitivity toward faith matters. The controversy adds pressure on the Aam Aadmi Party at a politically sensitive time.
