Australian Prime Minister Evacuated After Bomb Threat

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was evacuated from his official residence on Tuesday following a bomb threat. Authorities moved him from The Lodge at 6pm and took him to a secure location.

The Australian Federal Police conducted a full search of the property. Officers found nothing suspicious and declared there was no ongoing threat. Albanese returned to the residence around 9pm after the inspection ended.

The Prime Minister’s office thanked police for their swift response. The AFP oversees protection for federal parliamentarians and key Commonwealth sites, including Parliament House. Authorities have reported a sharp rise in threats against politicians in recent years. In 2024 alone, police recorded about 1,000 cases of harassment and threatening communications targeting lawmakers.

Earlier Tuesday, Albanese addressed a separate issue involving Prince Andrew. He confirmed Australia would write to other Commonwealth realms supporting his removal from the royal line of succession. Any change would require agreement from Britain and 14 other nations that recognize King Charles III as head of state.
