For decades, the United States symbolized success for many Indians — offering top education, high-paying jobs, and a promising future. But in 2026, that perception is gradually changing.

A growing number of Indian students and professionals are reconsidering their plans to move to the US, while some are even returning home. The shift is driven by several practical concerns.

Visa uncertainty remains a major challenge. The path from student visa to H-1B and permanent residency has become increasingly unpredictable, with lottery-based selections and long waiting periods.

Job market instability is another factor. Layoffs and hiring slowdowns, especially in tech, have made career prospects less secure. For many, losing a job could also mean losing their visa status.

At the same time, the cost of living in the US has risen sharply — from tuition fees to housing and healthcare — making it a high-risk investment for many Indian families.

Meanwhile, India is emerging as a strong alternative. With rapid economic growth, a booming startup ecosystem, and expanding career opportunities, professionals now see India as a viable and rewarding option.

Ultimately, the mindset is shifting. The American Dream is no longer the only path to success — and decisions are now being driven more by practicality than aspiration.

Protests by disabled persons in Tirupati have gained momentum following the removal of pensions by the coalition government. On Thursday, a large number of differently-abled individuals staged demonstrations in front of the Collectorate, demanding restoration of their benefits. YSRCP Tirupati in-charge Bhumana Abhinay Reddy extended his unity to the protesters. He urged the government to act swiftly and ensure justice to the disabled community. The demonstrations led to tense moments at the Collectorate premises. The issue took a political turn after Assembly Speaker recently stated that lakhs of ineligible persons in the state were drawing disability pensions. He further revealed that over one lakh disability pensions had already been cancelled, and disclosed that he had personally written to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu requesting cancellation of pensions granted to ineligible beneficiaries. According to official data, nearly 4.5 lakh pensions have been revoked in the last 14 months, including a large number of disability pensions. This development has caused widespread concern among beneficiaries, who fear that many more pensions may be withdrawn in the near future. The protesting disabled individuals are demanding immediate intervention from the government and restoration of their pensions, which they describe as their rightful entitlement.

In a significant step towards improving bilateral ties, India is set to relax visa restrictions for Chinese business professionals after nearly five years of stringent curbs. The government will soon begin approving visa applications for senior executives from leading Chinese companies, including Vivo, Xiaomi, Oppo, BYD, Hisense, and Haier. The move will enable positions such as CEOs, country heads, general managers, and senior executives in marketing, sales, finance, and human resources to return to India and directly oversee operations.

Industry observers note that the restrictions had created major operational hurdles, with several key executives managing Indian operations remotely. The easing of visas is expected to provide much-needed relief to companies, strengthen supply chains, and revive stalled collaborations in the technology and manufacturing sectors.

This development coincides with a broader warming in India–China relations. Both nations recently agreed to resume direct flights, facilitate journalist visas, and expand cultural exchanges. The diplomatic breakthrough followed high-level talks between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where both sides emphasized the importance of reducing border tensions while enhancing economic cooperation.

Analysts believe the decision signals a more pragmatic approach by New Delhi, balancing security considerations with the need to stabilize trade and investment. “Allowing Chinese business leaders back into India will help restore business confidence, particularly in the electronics and consumer durables sectors, where Chinese companies hold a significant market share,” said a senior industry official.

While the government has yet to release detailed guidelines on the new visa process, insiders suggest that most non-technical Chinese business visa applications are likely to be cleared in the coming months, marking a cautious but deliberate reopening

The Government of India Launched Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY) on Independence Day, August 15, 2025, and approved earlier by the Union Cabinet on July 1, 2025, the scheme runs from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2027. A flagship program aimed at accelerating job creation and strengthening the nation’s workforce. The scheme is designed to provide fresh employment opportunities, especially for youth, women, and marginalized groups, while offering financial incentives to industries that expand their hiring. It is a central sector employment-linked incentive scheme with an outlay of approximately ₹99,446 crore to ₹1 lakh crore, aiming to generate 3.5 crore new formal jobs

As part of the initiative, the government will support employers by contributing towards social security schemes such as EPFO and ESIC for newly hired employees, reducing the burden on companies and encouraging large-scale recruitment. In addition to job generation, PMVBRY emphasizes skill training and upskilling in emerging sectors like manufacturing, IT, services, and green energy.

Officials highlight that the program aligns with India’s vision of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed Nation) by 2047, ensuring inclusive growth, reduced unemployment, and a future-ready skilled workforce.

All partners of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has welcomed the announcement of Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the NDA’s vice-presidential candidate and pledged full support to his candidature.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy received a phone call on Monday from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who sought the party’s backing for Radhakrishnan in the upcoming vice-presidential election.

According to party sources, Jagan assured Rajnath singh that he would first consult YSRCP leaders before taking a final decision on extending support. The YSRCP currently holds seven seats in the Rajya Sabha and four seats in the Lok Sabha, making its support potentially significant in a closely contested election.

In recent years, the YSRCP has largely been cooperative with the NDA government on key legislative matters. The party voted in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), opposed the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the abrogation of Article 370. However, it opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill, highlighting a selective approach to national policies.

With the BJP keen on securing wide support, all eyes are now on Jagan’s decision, which could influence the political narrative surrounding the vice-presidential poll.

On 19th August 2025, the Lok Sabha passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to set up a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Guwahati, Assam. IIM Guwahati will be the 22nd IIM in India and the second in the Northeast after IIM Shillong. IIM Guwahati will be granted the status of an Institute of National Importance. The Centre has approved a corpus of about ₹555 crore for the first five years (2025–30). After this, the institute is expected to run on self-generated revenue.

The bill was piloted by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and passed by voice vote in Lok Sabha.

The project is also linked to the Special Development Package (SDP) for Assam and the Memorandum of Settlement with ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam), meant to boost education and economic development in the region.

The bill noted that until the first Board of IIM Guwahati is constituted under this Act, all powers and functions, which may be exercised or performed by or on behalf of such Board shall be exercised and performed by such person or persons as the central government may direct on this behalf.
