This step reflects a growing focus on sustainable infrastructure and clean power solutions.

The project will install solar power systems across 113 government buildings, creating a total capacity of 1.16 MW. Punjab Energy Development Agency will lead the implementation. The initiative will help reduce dependence on conventional electricity and encourage decentralized energy production. It also supports the broader goals of the Aspirational District Programme, which focuses on improving key development indicators.

Officials expect the project to significantly cut electricity costs in public offices, schools, and other government facilities. District Development Manager Rohit Kashyap stated that the initiative will lower carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner environment. He emphasized that adopting solar energy will also reduce the burden on traditional power grids, especially during peak demand hours.

Ferozepur goes green with this forward-looking plan that strengthens energy security and ensures reliable power supply in public infrastructure. The project will generate long-term financial savings for the government while promoting eco-friendly practices. It will also create awareness about renewable energy adoption at the grassroots level.

In addition, the initiative is likely to encourage similar projects in nearby districts, accelerating Punjab’s transition toward green energy. By integrating solar power into everyday governance, Ferozepur is setting an example of sustainable and climate-resilient development for other regions to follow.

In a shocking incident on Tuesday, Harbrinder Singh, the sitting Sarpanch of Thathian Mahantan village and reportedly linked to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was shot dead during a wedding function in Tarn Taran. The attack, carried out in broad daylight, has left the local community and political circles reeling.

According to preliminary reports, Harbrinder Singh had arrived at a private marriage palace to attend the ceremony. While seated with close acquaintances, two to three armed attackers suddenly entered and fired indiscriminately, reportedly targeting him. He died instantly at the scene.

His cousin, Germanjeet Singh, sustained serious bullet injuries. Witnesses immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors described his condition as critical. Residents and wedding guests reportedly panicked during the attack, and the palace temporarily shut down for investigation.

Police officials reached the scene within minutes. They cordoned off the area, began a manhunt for the assailants, and deployed forensic teams to collect evidence. CCTV footage from surrounding locations is being analysed, while senior officers are questioning eyewitnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Authorities have not yet established a clear motive, though political and personal angles are under scrutiny. Security concerns for local leaders have resurfaced in Tarn Taran, with political parties urging stricter protection measures for elected representatives.

This incident has triggered widespread condemnation across political and civic platforms. Local AAP leaders demanded swift action, calling for immediate arrests and assurances of safety for public representatives. The community is also demanding justice and compensation for the family of the deceased.

The police have appealed to residents to provide any information that could help identify and capture the attackers. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities promise to provide updates as new information emerges.

Giani Raghbir Singh said a Sarbat Khalsa has become essential to address growing concerns about the SGPC’s functioning.

Speaking in Amritsar, the Jathedar appealed to Sikh organisations, sects and Panthic groups to rise above internal differences. He stressed that the community must act collectively to safeguard Sikh institutions and traditions.

He alleged that corruption, maryada violations and administrative decline within the SGPC have deepened. Therefore, he argued, only a united and decisive response can restore accountability. He also raised concerns about missing sacred saroops and other alleged irregularities. According to him, open and collective deliberation offers the only credible solution.

Emphasising the historic importance of Sarbat Khalsa, he described it as the highest temporal forum of the Sikh community. He said such a gathering can restore sanctity, independence and public trust in religious bodies.

Furthermore, he urged groups such as Damdami Taksal, Nihang Singh organisations, Nirmala and Udasi sects, as well as farmers’ unions and Sikh bodies in India and abroad, to prioritise Panthic unity.

Following his appeal, political and religious circles have become active. While several Panthic and youth groups welcomed the call, unease reportedly surfaced within the SGPC and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).

A massive motorcycle rally will take place in Gurdaspur on February 19 to demand a strict anti-sacrilege law. A massive motorcycle rally in Gurdaspur will press the government to enact a strong legal framework to prevent sacrilege of any religion and religious scriptures.

Organisers expect hundreds of riders to participate in the procession across key areas of the city. They say the rally aims to raise awareness and build pressure on the state government to introduce a comprehensive law with stringent penalties. Volunteers have also planned peaceful coordination to ensure smooth conduct of the event.

The protest movement traces its roots to Samana, where Bhai Gurjeet Singh Khalsa has continued a sit-in atop a 400-foot tower for more than 508 days. Through this prolonged protest, he has consistently demanded firm legislation to curb incidents of sacrilege. His stand has drawn attention from religious and social groups across Punjab.

Meanwhile, Morcha coordinator Bhai Gurpreet Singh, representing the Sarv Dharam Beadbi Roko Kanoon Morcha, has been camping in Gurdaspur to mobilise public support. He has appealed to people from all faiths to join the rally and strengthen the call for legal reform.

After the rally, organisers will submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. They will urge the administration to forward their demand to the state government without delay.

Several organisations have extended support, including the Sanatan Jagran Manch, ward councillors, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni), and the District Traders’ Association. Supporters believe the rally will send a strong and united message about the urgency of protecting religious sentiments.

The controversy erupted after authorities asked Galgotias University to vacate its stall at the expo. Critics alleged that the university displayed a Chinese-made robotic dog as its own invention. The issue triggered sharp online backlash and political debate.

However, the university denied the charge. In a statement, it said it purchased the robot for academic research. It added that robotic programming forms part of its effort to train students in AI application development. Furthermore, it described the criticism as propaganda that could harm student morale.

The Supreme Court quashed HC rape attempt ruling and restored charges under Section 376 IPC and the POCSO Act.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and N.V. Anjaria, allowed the appeal and revived the original summons issued by the Special Judge (POCSO) in Kasganj. The court said the High Court misread the facts and diluted serious charges without proper basis.

The bench noted that the accused allegedly grabbed the minor’s breast, broke her pyjama string and dragged her near a culvert. Moreover, the accused allegedly took her on a motorcycle on the pretext of dropping her home. The assault stopped only after witnesses reached the spot on hearing her cries.

Therefore, the court ruled that these acts went beyond preparation and clearly indicated intent to commit rape. However, it clarified that its observations remain prima facie and will not affect the trial.

In addition, the court directed the National Judicial Academy to form an expert panel headed by former judge Justice Aniruddha Bose. The panel will frame guidelines to promote sensitivity in cases involving sexual offences.

The court had taken suo motu cognisance after a letter from “We the Women of India” raised concerns about the High Court’s reasoning.

Galgotias University vacated its stall at the India AI Impact Summit after critics alleged that it showcased the robot as its own invention.

Earlier, a viral video showed Professor Neha Singh introducing the RoboDog as “Orion.” As a result, social media users accused the university of misrepresentation. Soon after, authorities asked the institution to clear its expo space.

However, Registrar Nitin Kumar Gaur rejected the allegations. He clarified that the university did not develop the robot. Instead, it bought the machine to help students with research. He explained that confusion arose from the words “develop” and “development.”

Meanwhile, Professor Neha Singh also denied any false claim. She said the robot still carried its original branding. Moreover, she stated that it was displayed only for academic projection. She added that she teaches communications, not artificial intelligence.

In addition, the university issued a formal statement. It described the backlash as propaganda. Furthermore, it stressed its focus on innovation and skill-building. According to the statement, students use global technologies to gain practical exposure.

Overall, the incident sparked debate at the summit. The India AI Impact Summit operates under the IndiaAI Mission and Digital India initiative. It brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and academics to promote responsible AI growth.

Mohan Bhagwat will travel to Pathankot and Ludhiana for key events that include meetings with ex-servicemen, youth, and civil society members.

Bhagwat will start his visit in Pathankot, a strategically important border district, on February 25. He will address a special gathering of former armed forces personnel. Organisers expect discussions on national security, border challenges, and broader social concerns. Given Pathankot’s proximity to the international border, the interaction with veterans carries added significance.

Later that evening, Mohan Bhagwat will attend a youth conference in Pathankot. He is likely to speak about nation-building, cultural values, and the role of young citizens in shaping India’s future. RSS functionaries say the session will encourage dialogue on leadership, social responsibility, and community engagement.

On February 26, Bhagwat will travel to Ludhiana, Punjab’s industrial hub. There, he will address a civic conference with participation from representatives of various social and community organisations. The gathering will focus on social harmony, civic responsibility, and grassroots initiatives.

Sources indicate that Bhagwat will also review organisational activities of the RSS during his stay. Authorities are likely to strengthen security arrangements in both cities due to the high-profile nature of the visit.
