Baloch leader and human rights activist Mir Yar Baloch accused Pakistan of demolishing nearly 40 mosques in Balochistan. He made the remarks while responding to Islamabad’s criticism of India’s decision to profile mosques and religious committees in Kashmir.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry had earlier said such profiling violates freedom of religion. Mir Baloch rejected the claim and called Pakistan a state that suppresses minorities. He accused authorities of harassing Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, and other communities.
Mir Baloch said Pakistani forces bombed mosques, burned copies of the Quran, and abducted religious leaders in Balochistan. He cited the mosque of the Khan of Kalat as an early example of destruction. He said artillery damage still remains visible at the site.
He also expressed support for India’s position on Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said Pakistan lacks credibility on minority rights and religious freedom.
Balochistan remains a troubled region in southwestern Pakistan. The province holds vast mineral resources but suffers from poor development. The Baloch nationalist movement has demanded autonomy and independence for decades. In May 2025, some leaders declared independence. Insurgency and security operations continue to destabilize the region, including areas linked to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects.
