The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has released a sharp report accusing the Trinamool Congress government of pushing the State into industrial decline. Titled “West Bengal Industrial Graveyard”, the document claims that 14 years under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have transformed Bengal from an industrial hub into a state burdened by debt, failed policies, and lost investor confidence.

State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari released the report on December 17, a day before the State government’s high-level business conclave in Kolkata. The BJP alleged that industrial growth has collapsed due to governance failure, fiscal mismanagement, and corruption. The report highlighted three core issues: industrial annihilation, fiscal catastrophe, and governance breakdown.

According to the BJP, West Bengal’s total debt has risen from ₹2.07 lakh crore in 2011–12 to a projected ₹7.71 lakh crore in 2025–26, marking a 305% increase. The party also claimed that only 3% of investment proposals signed during eight editions of the Bengal Global Business Summit have translated into actual projects.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rejected the allegations, stating that the State follows FRBM norms and continues development despite pending central dues of ₹1.97 lakh crore. She accused critics of spreading negativity and misrepresenting facts.
