West Bengal entered a new phase of political tension on Thursday after posters announcing an Ayodhya-style Ram temple surfaced across Salt Lake. These posters appeared in busy areas such as City Centre and Karunamoyee. BJP leader and former Bidhannagar unit president Sanjay Poyra claimed responsibility for them. The posters promised a grand Ram temple complex on four bighas of land, complete with a school, hospital, old-age home, and welfare facilities. They also urged people to contribute one rupee each for the project.

The move came just days after suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for a Babri-model mosque in Murshidabad on December 6, the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition. The BJP responded immediately with a Ram temple bhoomi pujan in the same district. The Salt Lake posters have now pushed the controversy closer to the state’s administrative centre.

Poyra called the initiative a social-spiritual movement rooted in the vision of Ram Rajya. He said he had already received offers of land, materials, and idols. He refused to reveal the location, citing fears of obstruction. He announced that the bhoomi pujan would take place on March 26, Ram Navami.

Bidhannagar authorities have remained silent, and no details have emerged about any official application for the project.
