Bengaluru second, Pune fifth in global traffic congestion index
India is facing serious traffic problems, with six cities making it to the top 10 of Asia’s most congested cities in 2025. According to the latest Global Traffic Congestion Index, Bengaluru ranks second, while Pune is in fifth place. Other Indian cities in the top 10 include Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Jaipur.
Chennai is ranked 11th, and Hyderabad comes at 15th place. Experts say the high congestion is due to the rapid increase in vehicles, narrow roads, and limited public transport options.
Traffic jams in these cities lead to wasted time, higher fuel consumption, and increased air pollution. Authorities are urged to improve public transport, build better roads, and encourage carpooling and smart traffic management.
Urban planners say India needs urgent measures to reduce congestion and make city commuting faster, safer, and more efficient for millions of daily travelers.
