The Bettiah wedding procession accident shocked the people of West Champaran on Sunday night. The joy of a wedding in Vishunpurwa village turned into deep sorrow when an out-of-control car crashed into the procession on NH-727. According to eyewitnesses, the car tried to overtake a truck and lost control. The Bettiah wedding procession accident killed three people, including the groom’s uncle, the bus owner and driver.

Around one and a half dozen guests suffered injuries. Villagers rushed them to Lauriya CHC, but only an AYUSH doctor was available. He declared three people dead and referred the rest to GMCH. The delay in treatment angered the wedding guests. Some people shouted at the staff and created tension at the hospital.

Police later confirmed that the car owner is absconding. The seized vehicle will be examined further. After post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the families. The deceased were Harishankar Kushwaha (40), Dinesh Kushwaha (25) and Rajesh Mahato (47). Many others, including children, were injured.

This tragic accident has raised concerns about reckless driving and the lack of proper emergency care in rural Bihar.
